All the work, the planning, the conversations, the compositing (Al Bogdan, you rule): at last the trailer’s done, and posted on its own page. Have a look, enjoy!

The Servants of Thalia

Posted by: Kathe   in Performance, Puppet art

First, have a look at this
- and then think about who the servants of Thalia might be: Thalia herself being variously the Muse of comic poetry, and one of the Three Graces, associated with abundance and revelry. Either way, it sounds like a hell of a party to me.

Thanks to puppetmaster Al Bogdan for the link!

So welcome at the wrap party

   Posted by: Kathe   in Performance

This whole aesthetic – the corsets, the vaudeville, the post-fin-de-siecle attitude – makes of life a performance that the habitues of the Poppy would recognize and welcome; me, too. Drop by the trailer wrap-and-viewing party – we’re getting close to popping the corks ….

The physical animation of physical beings, i.e. actually moving the rods, was what we did last night. You start with a sultry actress, so – (and note her saucy feather) – then pair her with an intrepid handler (actually a trio of handlers), and voila! She reclines on her chaise, awaiting her onstage cavalier.

The five of us – Diane, Al, Randy, Fred, and I – along with an assemblage of non-speaking actors, spent a fairly hilarious evening making pieces of paper come alive. Analogous to the writing process, natch, but way more tactile.
