Oh so Punchdrunk!

Posted by: Kathe   in Performance, Research

Sleep No MoreOh wow. If you’re in the Boston/NY area, or even if (like me) you’re not, get your tickets anyway, because Punchdrunk‘s ruthless elegance wedded to Macbeth and filtered through Hitchcock is going to be … intense. How I love, love, love immersive, site-specific theatre like this!

Thought this might intrigue you and all other interested in shadow puppets. Paul and I are reading out loud PROSPERO’S CELL, a wonderful book by Lawrence Durrell about his time on the island of Corfu in the 1930′s. Chapter 4 describes a shadow play, with traditional characters. And here is a modern day link from You Tube to a play with one of the characters, Karajiozis:

Thanks for that link, Deb – I love the 3D aspect, the characters on and off the “screen,” shadows and in the light.
